Government Battery Rebates NSW
Battery Rebates & Energy Incentives
Make the Most of Available Battery Incentives
Government battery incentives can significantly reduce the upfront cost of installing eligible home and small-business battery storage.
Press Power helps customers across Bathurst, Orange and Central West NSW understand the battery incentives currently available, choose eligible technology and design a system around their actual energy needs.
The rebate can make battery storage more affordable, but choosing the right battery is just as important. Press Power looks at your solar generation, electricity usage, property and budget before recommending a solution.
Contact Press Power today to find out what battery incentives may be available for your property.

Australian Government Cheaper Home Batteries Program
Reduce the Upfront Cost of Battery Storage
The Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program provides financial support towards eligible battery installations for Australian households, businesses and community organisations.
The program provides a discount of around 30% on a range of eligible small-scale battery systems connected to new or existing solar. The discount is delivered through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme using Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs).
Eligible battery systems can have a nominal capacity between 5 kWh and 100 kWh, with STCs available on the first 50 kWh of usable capacity. The level of support varies with battery size and is scheduled to reduce over time.
For customers, the process can be relatively straightforward. Where applicable, the value of the discount can be incorporated into the battery quote rather than requiring you to navigate the certificate system yourself.
Who Can Access the Battery Discount?
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program is available for eligible battery installations at both residential and non-residential properties.
To qualify, the installation must meet the requirements of the program, including using eligible battery technology and an appropriately accredited installer. The battery must also be connected to a new or existing solar PV system.
Press Power can help determine whether your proposed system meets the relevant requirements and explain the available discount as part of your battery quote.
SAA Accredited – SAA7004134
Eligible installations under the Cheaper Home Batteries Program must be completed by an appropriately accredited Solar Accreditation Australia installer, with the battery meeting relevant program requirements.
Press Power’s SAA accreditation provides customers with confidence that their solar and battery installation is being completed by an experienced team familiar with the technical, safety and compliance requirements involved.
Our team installs and supports leading energy brands including Sungrow, Sigenergy, FranklinWH, Tesla and GoodWe, allowing us to recommend eligible technology based on the requirements of your property rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all battery package.
How Much Is the Battery Rebate?
It Depends on the Battery You Choose
The Australian Government describes the Cheaper Home Batteries Program as providing a discount of around 30% on a range of eligible battery systems, but there isn’t one fixed rebate amount that applies to every installation.
The actual discount depends on factors including the battery’s usable capacity, the applicable STC factor at the time of installation and the value of the certificates.
From 1 May 2026, the level of support is also tiered according to battery capacity, with greater support applying to the first portion of battery storage and progressively less support for additional capacity.
Press Power can calculate the applicable discount when preparing your battery quote so you can clearly understand the system cost and available incentive.
The Rebate Shouldn’t Decide Your Battery Size
Government incentives can make battery storage more attractive, but your system should still be designed around your household or business. Installing more battery capacity simply to maximise an incentive doesn’t necessarily deliver the best result.
Press Power considers:
- Your electricity consumption
- Your existing solar system
- Surplus solar generation
- Daytime and evening energy usage
- Your energy tariffs
- Backup power requirements
- Future EV charging
- Home electrification plans
- Your available budget
The Australian Government also recommends appropriately sizing batteries and notes that a battery that is too large for the property’s solar or inverter can limit its potential benefits.
The aim is to use available incentives to make the right battery more affordable, rather than allowing the rebate to determine the system.
NSW Virtual Power Plant Incentive
Your Battery Could Do More
In addition to the federal battery discount, eligible NSW customers can receive an incentive for connecting their battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).
A VPP connects participating batteries so stored electricity can be made available to the grid at certain times. Depending on your provider and agreement, participating can provide an upfront incentive as well as opportunities to receive ongoing payments for electricity supplied from your battery.
Eligible batteries can currently be more than 2 kWh and up to 50 kWh in capacity. The incentive varies depending on factors including the battery capacity made available and the VPP provider you choose.
The NSW VPP incentive may also be combined with the Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program where the relevant eligibility requirements are met.
